Itinerary
We depart Bujumbura city to Bugarama in the province of Muranvya, 34 km from the city of Bujumbura. On our journey, you can’t miss the sight of the beautiful mountains and the amazing nature in the Muranvya province and the surroundings. On arrival in this beautiful city, we will go to the Kibira hotel where we will have continental breakfast at 8.30 am while enjoying the morning smooth weather with garden view.
After breakfast in Bugarama, we will see Kibira National Park, 80 km long and about 8 km Wide, covering 40,000ha. This environment is mainly dominated by a tropical mountain forest, ranging from 1,600m to nearly 2,700m. Kibira National Park, which extends between 1,600 and about 2,800 m, consists of three large mountain forest complexes, still partially primary and covering the northern part of the Congo Nile ridge in Burundi. It extends from Burundi into the Nyungwe Forest in Rwanda. Access to the park is through the huge tea plantations of Teza and Rwegura which are already a real spectacle. Teza has become a household name in Burundi for three reasons; its tea plantations, its entry point to the Kibira National Park, and its eponymous mountain. The second-highest peak in the country is at 2,666 meters. It is a destination of choice for travelers looking to keep a souvenir of Burundi's beautiful landscapes. we continue our journey to the province of Gitega about 82 km from Kibira national park. After a 45-minute drive, there you will visit a town that is well known as the houses of the kings and the struggles between the colonizers and the kings of Burundi. We expect to arrive in Gitega around 12:00Hrs.
We will visit the National Museum of Gitega where we will find the history of Burundi. And the city tour before we continue to the hotel for check-in. In the later afternoon, we take a trip to the tourist site of Gishora which is located 7 km from the city center. Upon arrival, local drummers will first explain the history related to “ingoma” before going to where they have prepared the drum show. After seeing the show, we will continue the road to cankuzo for a overnight.
After breakfast in Cankuzo, we will visit an exceptional wildlife reserve, the Ruvubu Park. Located at the borders of the populated regions of central Burundi and the pioneer fronts of eastern Burundi. This park lies in still wild palustrine environments, the Ruvubu is inhabited by varied and visible fauna. It is to this fauna that it owes its name, at least to its best-represented species (especially towards the south), the hippopotamus, which is called imvubu in Kirundi. From birds to primates, buffaloes, antelopes, and others, the park is full of animals that inhabit the banks of its river (1,350 meters above sea level) or the relief of its mountainous edges (up to 1,800 meters). Before we start the tour of the southern part of the country we will continue our journey to Rutana province, where you will see the amazing waterfalls, before heading to Bururi province to see the source of the Nile. This site has a special significance as it is the southernmost source of the Nile in the south. The source of the Nile was discovered by researchers who then built a pyramid which became a symbol of the origin of the Nile. After visiting the source of the Nile, we will go to Nyanza Lac passing through Bururi and Rumonge. We will spend a nice night at the Saga Nyanza Hotel.
After breakfast at Saga Nyanza, we will visit the thermal waters of Mugara in Rumonge commune which is the most important site in Burundi. The site is frequented by many people for their well-being or for reasons of illnesses. Others who use this site are tourists for contemplation. After the thermal waters, we go to Tanganyika Blue Bay Resort for Lunch The resort offers you awesome eco-friendly & romantic settings to relax and enjoy your stay with your loved ones. The resort is peaceful, calm, and located on the shore of Lake Tanganyika. After Lunch and a moment of rest at the lake, we will hit the road back to Bujumbura.
